I liked this story about two young people in Russia finding each other in a truly unbelievable way. The guy loses his fiancĂ© in a car crash, decides to commit suicide off a bridge, and finds a young woman about to jump herself. She had been thrown out by her parents for getting pregnant and was moments from ending her life. Andriej Ivanov talked her down and into his arms. Maria Petrova believes Andriej is her knight in shining armor. They are to be married soon. Now come on… you have to admit this is good stuff. The names seemed so familiar I did a quick Google search and turned up two very similar names: Maria Petrova & Alexei Tikhonov. They’re world champion figure skaters. It did strike me as possibly a Russian reporter deciding to do an ‘Enquirer’ type love story that the UK Sun picked up. I think today, I prefer to believe in Maria and Andriej. :)

Me too!
I'll go along with you and Bernita. Would be nice to be true.
No, I don't find it nice and fuzzy. It may or may not be true, we'll never know.
I find it disturbing. I find it disturbing that people think its a warm and fuzzy type of story. The thought to kill yourself is a sign of mental instability and drama queen behaivior.
I would run from any woman who told me she was ready to kill herself. I would hardly want someone that unstable around me. There would be too great a chance that mental instability would manifest itself in some other behaivior as well. Drugs, alcohol, self mutilation, who knows.
Bad things happen but life goes on. Get over whatever it is. You only have one life and me, being atheist, don't buy the idea of some afterlife ( i.e. you have perpetual life ). Only in terminal, painful illness would I accept the concept.
It is oddhow such people find each other. Psychologist wonder at how the same types are drawn to each other like a magnet.
To good to be true is the wrong question. Why people would consider such stuff heartwarming is a better question.
Bernita, Charles - glad you liked the story. It was a good one with a happy ending for a change. :)
I'm with you on the suicide thing but I do have an upbeat anecdote for you, whydibuy. When my wife was a teenager, she attempted suicide with sleeping pills over a boyfriend issue before she and I crossed paths. Luckily, her folks rushed her to the hospital. She and I have been married over thirty years and raised two kids without her ever going over to the dark side again. Naturally, I've made her 'mental' a time or three over the decades - but not addictive or suicidal. :)
Can't say if it's true, but it is a sweet story.
Reminded me a bit of "It's A Wonderful Life", when George Bailey goes to the bridge to end it all & winds up 'saving' the angel. :)
And I think many people go through periods of depression, even despair, or suffer from bi-polar disorder. It's not necessarily a matter of 'getting over' it.
If two people can be supportive of each other--more power.
I've seen the same theme in more than a few movies too, Raine. Life does imitate fiction because anything a writer imagines about romance can happen somewhere. You're right though, anyone who claims they've never got up in the morning, looked around, and mumbled 'where's the beef' is a liar. :)
