Kayaking From Hell
This story about extreme kayakers will give you a chill. Two Americans who do extreme kayaking went on an expedition with a South African named Hendri Coetzee to learn from him how to survive kayaking in the Congo. Coetzee didn't survive the lesson. A crocodile around fifteen feet long tore him right out of his kayak and he was never seen again. This is the survivors' account Deadly Lesson.

Geeze, that's an expensive lesson in the fact that nature still has some claws and teeth.
Yeah, Charles, seeing Mother Nature in action up close and personal like that would be a prelude to crossing kayaking in the Congo off my 'To Do' list. :)
Didn't anyone have a gun? I realize it probably happened in a blink, but at least they could've shot in the water.
That was probably the longest 20 seconds of their lives. I doubt they're not kayaking there out of respect. That may be part of it, but I'm sure it has more to do with fourteen foot crocs. What a horrible way to go. :(
Even if they had a gun, Jordan, according to their account the croc took him in a split second and disappeared with him. Remember too they were kayaking down a moving river. As you say, a horrible way to go.
This gave me goosebumps...
A horrible price for living a life of adventures hat others can only dream of.
Merry Christmas, dear Bernard. May it bring love and peace for you and all your loved ones.
You're right, Versper. Every time I go scuba diving someone will walk by while I'm getting my gear on and ask me 'Aren't you afraid of sharks?'. I always smile and shrug... but hell yes I'm afraid of sharks. :) I'm sure Mr. Coetzee wasn't fond of crocs either but his love of kayaking outweighed his fear.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family, Vesper!
