Superbowl Review

Time for a lighthearted review of CBS’s hosting of the Superbowl Game. While the network made a few vague attempts at actually covering the sports aspect of a Superbowl matchup, CBS mainly relied on pathos both political and humanity related in their lead-up to the actual game. As Katie Couric tried desperately to make yet another President Obama interlude and Hurricane Katrina pathos visit an Edward R. Murrow moment, she failed as miserably to entertain as her nightly news program. Then, another genius producer decided a pathos trip to prison highlighting ex-coach Bill Cowher’s interview with inmate and ex-player Plaxico Burress would raise sympathy for a guy making millions who shoots himself while nightclubbing in New York City.
The Superbowl draws near. CBS then lets Queen Latifa butcher ‘America the Beautiful’. They should have simply played Ray Charles’ version on their sound system. I’m no Carrie Underwood fan but she belted out a very good ‘Star Spangled Banner’ to lead us into one of the better Superbowls of all time. The Saints won me the second quarter football pool with their last second field goal in the first half. They then went on to win it, fulfilling another highlight for me – a new team winning the biggest game.
Superbowl commercials, supposedly one of the highpoints, alternated between mediocre to ho-hum to just plain awful. I’m sure Audi thought it was a hilarious idea to do a futuristic commercial with ‘Green’ Nazi’s arresting people violating environmental laws with their diesel being the eco friendly hero, but it’s obvious they’ve never been to California. We actually have these ‘Green’ Nazis patrolling our neighborhoods. While they don’t arrest us for having light bulbs, that’s just around the corner. . Please… can we outlaw GoDaddy from anything on TV. When the most entertaining commercial in the Superbowl is a bull running next to the Budweiser Clydesdales it’s time to fire all the ad people in the country. Verdict for CBS’s peripheral entertainment for the Superbowl show – F. Verdict for Superbowl commercials – D+. Verdict for the Superbowl game – A.
I think CBS should be banned from televising the Superbowl for the rest of this decade.  :)

I didn't actually watch the whole game, kept turning channels...but did see the high point (interception--yay!)...thought the Green Nazis were HILARIOUS...loved the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial (GORGEOUS animals)...and I want Betty White and Abe Vigoda on my team. :D

That interception really popped the Colt's balloon, Raine. :)

I see some of the commercials but don't pay much attention to them. I did see the green nazis, though, and I thought it was kind of funny. Although humor sometimes comes with truths within. Mostly I was just glad the Saints won, and I got roundly tired of hearing the Katrina pathos again and again and again. Come on already.

The pre-game stuff was the worst, Charles. I kept turning the channel and when I returned to CBS they had a new piece of crap playing. I almost gave up when Bill Cowher did the prison interview. Yeah... I've got all kinds of sympathy for a multi-millionaire player who screws up his life nightclubbing with a gun.
