A Publishing Problem, Progress, and a Summer Giveaway

We had a shock at the start of the weekend. Amazon put my novel HARD CASE for free, without permission. It’s back at the regular price with some complications still to be worked out. Apparently in the fine print somewhere, they can hold specials without compensation. We’re looking into it. I am going to get an answer. HARD CASE and THE LURE OF HELL have been in the top ten, and usually the top five of Men’s Adventure for weeks with great rankings. It’s another adventure in publishing I never knew existed on the Amazon marketplace.

I’m going over 80,000 words in my new novel, Rick Cantelli, P.I. today, so I’m in the home stretch on it, way ahead of the September 1st release I thought would be workable. Now, I’m thinking the first week in August. Since I already have 15,000 words done in the third book of my John Harding series, I’ll be on target for getting it finished by the holidays. My partner, RJ Parker, has a new contest going. It’s a summer giveaway. The details are here:

You're rolling, man. I'd heard Amazon could do that. Haven't had it happen to me yet.

It was a surprise, Charles. No warning and no compensation for the hundreds of downloads. But, the writing is going well. :) I know you're getting close to releasing 'Wraith of Talera'.

I have not yet read anything written by Bernard but I am looking forward to doing so very very soon. I would be so happy to be the recipient of the Kindle but I know I have no luck, so with that, I am wishing YOU all the luck with your writing career and much success.
Sincerely,
Cynthia

Thanks, Cynthia. It's free to enter so there's really no risk. As to winning anything, I'm the same way. I think I won a stuffed toy carrot for my daughter playing pool at the county fair one summer about twenty-five years ago. :)

That's an interesting way of doing business. You'd think that, at the very least, they'd alert the author!
But congrats on all the progress anyway. You are in the zone this year!

Thanks, Raine. Hey, don't forget to enter the contest. The Kindle is the greatest writing tool of all time. :) Yeah, it took us a week to recover from the freebie. It proved beyond any doubt that giveaways in fiction are a horrible marketing tool. Thanks, Amazon, but I already knew that.

I'm up to 88,000 words now, so I'll be finishing the novel in the next couple days, and then as you know, the tedious work begins. :)

Nice giveaways. Hope to get that Kindle. Does it come with a digital copy of your books? :)

Bernard Lee DeLeo said...

Good question, Maloy. I don't think so, but if you win, remind me, and RJ Parker will gift one to you of your choice. :)
